Hey everyone, it’s Tanner. The LEGO Marvel Daily Bugle (set 76178) is the LEGO build that gave Spider-Man fans the architectural icon they’d been waiting for — and as of late 2023 it’s officially retired, which means the secondary market is now where you go to chase one.

What Makes This Set Special

The Daily Bugle is the New York newspaper building where Peter Parker works as a freelance photographer in the comics and films. The LEGO build delivers:

  • Four full floors with iconic Spider-Man scene staging (newsroom, J. Jonah Jameson’s office, conference room, basement)
  • Rooftop water tower and “Daily Bugle” sign that reads from across the room
  • 82cm of total height — the tallest Marvel LEGO building ever made
  • 25 minifigures spanning Spider-Man’s entire rogue gallery

The roof and floors lift off independently for full interior access. Most modular Marvel buildings give you exterior detail; this one gives you the experience of running through the building chasing or being chased by Spider-Man villains.

The Build

3,772 pieces, roughly 14 hours across four sessions. The build is sequenced ground floor first, then each upper floor, then the rooftop water tower and signage last.

The Daily Bugle sign at the top is the engineering centerpiece. The lettering is rendered using thin-tile and bracket techniques, and the whole sign tilts slightly toward the front for visibility. The sign is what makes this set unmistakable as the Daily Bugle from across a room.

The 25 Minifigures

The roster is the deepest Spider-Man-faction figure set in any LEGO set. Highlights:

  • J. Jonah Jameson (the iconic newspaper editor)
  • Peter Parker (in casual clothes)
  • Spider-Man (the iconic red/blue costume)
  • Black Cat
  • Daredevil
  • Punisher
  • Doctor Octopus
  • Green Goblin
  • Venom
  • Mysterio
  • Sandman
  • Lizard
  • Vulture
  • Kingpin

Plus 11 additional Daily Bugle staff and minor villains. 25 figures at roughly $14/figure effective price is among the best minifig-per-dollar values in the Marvel LEGO lineup.

Now Retired — Secondary Market Reality

LEGO retired set 76178 in late 2023. Aftermarket trajectory:

  • eBay sold (early 2024): $385 sealed, $310 opened-built
  • eBay sold (mid-2025): $510 sealed, $410 opened-built

Roughly 150% of MSRP on sealed copies — solid retirement appreciation, on par with the Devastator (75252) curve. The driver is the same modular-building demand engine that drove the Home Alone curve: collectors who missed it at MSRP are now competing with completionists.

If you’re shopping now: target a built copy in the $370–$410 range. Sealed copies above $510 are speculative.

Display Notes

Footprint: 35cm × 35cm with a height of 82cm including the water tower. The tallest Marvel LEGO building ever made — taller even than the Avengers Tower by about 10cm. Display on a low shelf or TV stand where the height can extend upward without ceiling interference.

This set pairs definitively with the Sanctum Sanctorum and Avengers Tower. The three buildings together create the most complete Marvel NYC LEGO display you can assemble.

Is It Worth Chasing on the Secondary Market?

If you can find a built copy under $400: yes. The 25-figure roster alone justifies that premium, and the build experience is one of the best in the Marvel modular-building line.

If you’re paying $510+ sealed: wait. The Daily Bugle’s retirement curve has been steady but not explosive. Patience pays.
