Hey everyone, it’s Tanner. The LEGO Disney 101 Dalmatians (set 43251) is the LEGO build that captures the iconic Disney puppy aesthetic in buildable sculptural form — and as part of the Disney sculpture line alongside Young Simba, it’s one of the most gift-ready Disney LEGO sets in the recent line.
What Makes This Set Special
This is a buildable, articulated Rolly the dalmatian puppy from the iconic 1961 Disney animated film 101 Dalmatians. The build delivers:
- Articulated head with poseable neck and ears
- Articulated legs for sitting, standing, or playful poses
- Poseable tail that wags side-to-side
- Iconic spotted-dalmatian colour pattern in actual white-and-black brick (not stickers)
- Detailed face printing with the recognizable Disney puppy expression
- Rolly nameplate tag on the collar (the printed “Rolly” detail)
- Small Disney-themed display base
The face printing is the standout detail. Disney puppy face printing is harder than it looks at LEGO scale — the cute-vs-realistic balance comes down to specific eye geometry and snout proportions. Rolly is unmistakably Rolly, not a generic spotted puppy.
The Build
1,182 pieces, roughly 5 hours across one or two sessions. Sequenced body first (with the structural Technic frame), then the head and articulated mouth, then the legs and tail, then the display base and nameplate last.
The spotted colour pattern is rendered using individual black tile placements across the white body. Each spot is a deliberate design choice — they’re positioned to match the iconic Rolly spot pattern from the film. The pattern is what makes the build feel canonical rather than generic.
What to Watch For
The set doesn’t include all 101 Dalmatians. There’s just one puppy (Rolly) on the display base. If you wanted Pongo, Perdita, and the other puppies, you’ll need to source figures from other Disney LEGO sets or wait for LEGO to release additional 101 Dalmatians sets.
The articulation joints loosen with frequent posing. After repeated pose changes, the front-leg and tail joints develop noticeable looseness. Pose Rolly into a final display configuration and avoid frequent re-posing.
Display Notes
Footprint: 20cm × 16cm × 18cm tall. Smaller-footprint Disney sculpture — fits any shelf or desk corner.
This set pairs specifically well with the Lion King: Young Simba (43247) and the Tuxedo Cat (21349) for a curated “buildable animals” Disney+Ideas display. The three together create a curated animal-sculpture shelf that reads as deliberate.
Is It Worth $100?
At 1,182 pieces it’s $0.085 per piece — solid value for a Disney sculpture, in line with the Young Simba and slightly below the Tuxedo Cat. The articulation is solid, the face printing is excellent, and the iconic-puppy recognition is the killer feature.
Recommended at MSRP for any Disney or 101 Dalmatians fan. Must-buy on a 20% LEGO Insiders discount (~$80) — at that price, it’s a no-question gift purchase for any Disney animal-lover in your life. If you’re choosing between this and the Young Simba as a Disney display: get whichever character means more to you. Both are excellent buys.
