Hey everyone, it’s Tanner. The LEGO Icons Ghostbusters Ecto-1 (set 10274) is the LEGO build that finally captured the iconic 1959 Cadillac Ecto-1 at Icons-tier scale — and the equipment-bay detailing alone justifies the $200 price tag.

What Makes This Set Special

The Ecto-1 is the converted 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor ambulance that the Ghostbusters use as their primary vehicle. The LEGO interpretation captures every iconic feature:

  • 1959 Cadillac silhouette with the iconic tail fins and chrome trim
  • Roof-mounted equipment including the rotating siren array and PKE meter mount
  • Equipment bay in the rear with proton packs, ghost trap, and tool storage
  • Working sirens that rotate (visual, not lit)
  • Opening doors, hood, and trunk for full interior access
  • Removable roof equipment for transport-mode display

The roof-mounted equipment array is the most photographed detail. The rotating siren, the PKE meter mount, the antenna array — all reads as authentic Ghostbusters tech rather than generic vehicle accessories.

The Build

2,352 pieces, roughly 9 hours across two or three sessions. Sequenced chassis first, then the body shell, then the interior detailing, then the roof equipment array last.

The roof equipment is the engineering centerpiece. The equipment is mounted on a removable platform that lifts off the car body, allowing you to display the Ecto-1 in “transport mode” (without equipment) or “on-call mode” (with full equipment array). The equipment platform clips on with magnetic-feeling precision.

What to Watch For

The side panel and window stickers are the most visible sticker work in the set. The “Ecto-1” lettering, the warning labels, the side-panel accents — all are stickered, not printed. Take your time on the sticker phase — alignment matters for the final visual.

The set doesn’t include any minifigures. It’s a vehicle-only set. If you want Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, and the rest of the original Ghostbusters cast, the LEGO Ideas Ghostbusters Firehouse (75827, retired) is where to find them.

Display Notes

Footprint: 48cm × 18cm × 26cm tall. Slightly larger than the Land Rover Defender (10317) — needs a wider shelf. Display in on-call mode (with full roof equipment) for the iconic silhouette.

This set pairs specifically well with the Back to the Future Time Machine (10300) for a “iconic 80s movie vehicles” display cluster. The Ecto-1’s classic Cadillac proportions contrast cleanly with the BTTF DeLorean’s gull-wing futurism.

Is It Worth $200?

At 2,352 pieces it’s $0.085 per piece — strong value for an Icons vehicle, beating both the Land Rover Defender and the BTTF Time Machine on per-piece math.

For Ghostbusters fans: must-buy at MSRP. For Icons vehicle collectors expanding their fleet, this is one of the strongest releases — the equipment-bay detailing makes it more narratively interesting than most LEGO vehicle sets, and the iconic silhouette delivers display energy that few other LEGO cars can match.

Highly recommended.
