Hey everyone, it’s Tanner. The LEGO Icons Loop Coaster (set 10303) is the biggest, loudest, most kinetic LEGO build I own — and the only set in my entire collection that kids gravitate to within thirty seconds of walking in the room.

What Makes This Set Special

This is a complete working LEGO roller coaster at theme-park scale — not a static display, not a representation of a coaster. It actually moves. The cars climb the chain lift, crest the first hill, drop into the loop, complete the loop, return through the figure-eight, and circle back to the load station.

The set delivers:

  • 88cm of vertical track height — the tallest LEGO coaster ever shipped
  • 1m × 60cm of footprint — full theme-park-scale display
  • Motorized cars that loop, dip, and return through the track
  • A fairground vignette with 11 minifigures (riders, staff, vendors)
  • Period-correct accessories: hot dog stand, balloon stand, photo-op signs

The motor unit (Powered Up hub) is sold separately. If you don’t own one, factor in another $80 for the hub + control battery. Without the motor, the coaster runs only by manual cranking — which is fine for occasional play, but the magic happens when the motor is engaged and the cars run continuously.

The Build

3,756 pieces, roughly 16 hours across five sessions. Sequenced base first (the structural platform that supports the entire coaster), then the chain-lift tower, then each successive track section, then the loop, then the fairground vignette and the figures last.

The single most satisfying moment is bag 32, when the loop closes and you finally see the coaster’s complete circuit. Run a test car through manually before adding the motor — the moment the car traces the loop for the first time is the kind of “did that just happen” moment that makes building this set worth every minute.

The 11 Minifigures

Eleven characters spanning the funfair:

  • Coaster operator with control booth uniform
  • Engineer with tools
  • Three riders with seated poses for the cars
  • Hot dog vendor with apron
  • Balloon vendor with balloon accessory
  • Photographer
  • Three park guests in casual clothes

The rider figures with seated poses are the smartest casting decision — they fit into the coaster cars exactly, and you can stage them mid-loop with their hands raised. The set ships ready to photograph from the moment you finish the build.

Display Notes

Footprint: 1m × 60cm × 88cm tall. This is theme-park-scale display real estate. Don’t try to display this on a desk — you need a dedicated low table or a deep shelf. I have mine on a 1.2m × 75cm table that’s exclusively for this set.

Run the motor for the first 30 minutes after building, then transition to “static display with optional motor on demand” mode. The motor is fun, but running it constantly stresses the gear teeth and shortens motor life. Use it for guests or kids; let it rest most of the time.

Is It Worth $400?

At 3,756 pieces it’s $0.106 per piece — fair value for an Icons funfair set, comparable to the Boutique Hotel and slightly above the Jazz Club. The motor functionality is the value-multiplier — without the kinetic feature, this would be a $300 set.

For families with kids: must-buy at MSRP. The kinetic appeal is unmatched in the LEGO catalog. For solo collectors, this depends entirely on whether you have the floor space and the willingness to maintain a running coaster. If you don’t, the Mighty Bowser or PAC-MAN Arcade deliver kinetic appeal in much smaller footprints.
