Hey everyone, it’s Tanner. The LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship UCS (set 75309) is one of the rare UCS sets that doesn’t sacrifice play features for display polish — the side doors slide open, the gunner turrets swivel, and the troop bay actually seats clones. Retired since 2023, and one of the most asked-about UCS Star Wars sets on the secondary market.

What Makes This Set Special

The Republic Gunship was the Clone Wars era’s primary dropship and close-air-support craft — and the UCS version captures every iconic feature from the cartoon and the films:

  • Sliding side doors that open to reveal a full troop bay
  • Seating for four clone troopers inside the bay
  • Ball-turret gunner positions on each wing (with poseable gun barrels)
  • Forward cockpit with two pilot seats
  • Folding side wings that retract for compact display

The ball-turret gunner positions are the standout. You can rotate each turret 360 degrees and the gun barrels poseable independently. It’s the kind of mechanical interaction that earns the UCS treatment.

The Build

3,292 pieces, roughly 13 hours across four sessions. The build is sequenced fuselage-first, then the troop bay interior, then the wings and ball turrets, then the cockpit and display stand last.

The troop bay interior is the standout sub-build. It includes seating, weapons racks, communication consoles, and overhead lighting strips — all of which you can see when the side doors are open. Display the gunship with one door open for maximum visual interest.

The Minifigures

Four figures, all Clone Wars-era:

  • Mace Windu with his iconic purple lightsaber
  • Clone Pilot in standard Republic flight gear
  • Clone Trooper in standard 501st armor
  • Battle Droid for staging combat scenes

The Mace Windu figure is the reason a lot of buyers chose this set — it’s the best Mace Windu LEGO has ever shipped, with proper face printing and the elegant Jedi robes. Worth $40+ on its own on the secondary market.

Now Retired — Secondary Market Reality

LEGO retired set 75309 in late 2023. Aftermarket trajectory:

  • eBay sold (2024): $415 sealed, $345 opened-built
  • eBay sold (mid-2025): $560 sealed, $445 opened-built

Roughly 160% of MSRP on sealed copies — solid retirement appreciation, similar to the Devastator’s curve but slower because the Gunship has a more niche audience (Clone Wars-specific fans) compared to the universal Imperial appeal.

If you’re shopping now: target a built copy in the $400–$440 range. Sealed copies above $560 are speculative.

Display Reality Check

Footprint: 52cm × 38cm with the display stand, with a height of about 18cm. Heavier than expected at roughly 4.2 kg — wall mounting is not advised without serious anchor hardware.

I display mine on a low shelf with one side door open and Mace Windu visible inside. The single best display configuration is door-open with the Jedi visible — it telegraphs both “this is a Clone Wars LEGO set” and “this set has interior detail” simultaneously.

Is It Worth Chasing on the Secondary Market?

If you can find a built copy under $450: yes. The play features alone justify a 25–30% premium over MSRP.

If you’re paying $560+ for sealed: wait. The Gunship’s retirement curve has been steady but not explosive. Patience pays.
